iLHP and Zeiss at PhotoPlus Expo 2015: Exclusive Interview

For the past year, iLHP has been collaborating with some of the industry’s best brands and manufacturers in order to bring you the newest and latest in photography. We’ve had early sneak previews and exclusive interviews. This past month, we attended the PhotoPlus Expo in New York City and met with ZEISS. We had the fortune of speaking with Nicole (Marketing Manager), Christoph (Brand and Product Communications), and Christophe (Senior Product Manager).

What is Zeiss Up To?

They were very enthusiast in answering your and our questions. Many projects are being developed and as you can imagine the partnership with Sony is their main point of focus, so to speak. There are obviously some secrets that they have to keep as the industrial competition is always ongoing but they could let us know that we can expect about 5 new Full-Frame E-mount lenses, including 2 to 3 new ones in 2016.

The Full Frame system is now clearly what the engineering and R&D teams in Germany are asked to develop. The A5100 and the A6000 are amazing cameras but are not the primary targets they want to address. They admitted being surprised by how popular and successful the A7 series is.

Like the Canon's and Nikon's, Sony's booth was very active with a lot of conferences.

The World’s Top 10 Sunsets

I have seen some spectacular sunsets around the world but there are still many places that I would love to travel to and capture with my lens. It is always exciting going to a new place and seeing new things for the first time. I love how each place has a uniqueness to it even if it is within the same country. Last summer I was out shooting a great deal in Toronto and every night the sky would paint a new picture for me to capture through my lens. The cityscape always had a different backdrop. Shooting at sunset into nightfall is one of my favorite times to start snapping.

Here are some of the places I hope to visit one day and have the pleasure of witnessing the sunset with my very own eyes:

10) Kenya

Since I was wee I remember always having a fascination about visiting Africa and going on a safari. I am a huge animal lover and would love to be able to experience the sight of such spectacular animals in their natural habitat. Elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras and tigers are some of the most magnificent animals on the planet. It would be a dream come true to one day have the opportunity to capture both the animals and the sunsetting at the same time.

I Want to be a Part of It: New York City

Once upon a time a girl from Toronto had big dreams of moving to New York City. She had hopes of attending FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology) about 17 years ago. She submitted her portfolio to the Fashion Design program and found a roommate to share an apartment with in Soho. She found out less than a month before her move that FIT misplaced all her original work. Her portfolio was misplaced and she wouldn’t be able to attend that semester. That girl’s heart and dreams were suddenly crushed. That girl was me.

The 6 Ultimate Street Fashion Photographers and Bloggers

Anytime I can combine both fashion and photography together I instantaneously become ecstatic. Fashion has been an immense passion of mine for as long as I can recall. Working in the fashion industry was what I was been doing most of my professional career before photography became an extensive part of my everyday life. I have always admired fashion photography from my early teenage years and shared some of my favorite fashion photographers in a previous blog post, My 7 All-Time Favorite Fashion & Celebrity Photographers. If I could, I would eat, sleep, and breathe fashion and combine it with my more recent admiration for photography to form the quintessential amalgamation of my two loves. Having worked in the fashion industry for most of my adulthood, I have always been captivated by street fashion photographers showcasing some of the most stylish people from across the globe. In my last weeks post, What I Learned Being Stuck At Home: Self Portraits – Part 1, I actually attempted to combine my love for both fashion and photography in a self-portrait/dress-up photoshoot for the first time.

First Impressions of the Sony A7 and Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 Combo in New York City

DSC00165-5

A quick four day trip to New York with my family gave me a chance to try out the much acclaimed Sony A7. First impressions were very positive.

“Look ma, it’s like a point and shoot!”
The full-frame A7 is easier to use than traditional DSLRs. You can compose either with the viewfinder or the back monitor, and the rear monitor even tilts so you can “shoot from the hip” inconspicuously or held high above your head to get over crowds. Can’t do this with most DSLRs. Autofocus was fast and accurate even at night, albeit night near Times Square isn’t really all that dark. Overall, the A7’s responsiveness is just a tad below the Canon 5D Mark II. Main problem is waking the camera from power-save/sleep mode. It takes a good 1-2 seconds whereas the 5D2 is instant. Please fix this Sony.
