As far as editorial work is concerned, proper communication between a photographer and makeup artist is essential to having a successful shoot. Unfortunately, while we belong to the same industry, we don’t always speak the same language. I’ve experienced the brilliant, the okay, and the seriously ugly end-results of shoots where the team just didn’t gel. In fact, I’m sure we all have. 3) Create A Mood Board
Providing a MUA with a simple mood board can be a great way to show them the theme of the shoot. Assemble a collection of photos that represent the look of the end product you’d want. Point out specific things you really like and why, and be firm about what you don’t want.
